Adult Sunday School Elective Auditorium Class

Based on the book Trusting God by Jerry Bridges

This six-week study offers you a reminder of God’s sovereignty and God’s goodness.

Our study will provide encouragement by demonstrating from Scripture that

  • God is in control of your life.
  • God does indeed love you.
  • God is working out all the circumstances of your life for your ultimate good.

September 16    Can you trust God?

“Adversity is difficult even when we know God is in control of our circumstances.  In fact, that knowledge sometimes tends to aggravate (our) pain. ‘If God is in control,’ we ask, ‘why did He allow this to happen?'”

God is completely sovereign, infinite in wisdom, perfect in love, and therefore worthy of your trust.  God’s desire for you is that you learn to trust Him.

September 23    Is God in control?

“I admit that we are often unable to reconcile God’s sovereignty and goodness in the face of widespread tragedy or personal adversity, but I believe that, although we often do not understand God’s ways, He is sovereignty at work in all of our circumstances.”

God is in control.  He has a purpose and a plan for you, and He has the power to carry out that plan.

September 30   God’s Sovereignty and Your Responsibility

“There is no conflict between trusting God and accepting our responsibility.  Our duty is found in the revealed will of God in the Scriptures.  Our trust must be in the sovereign will of God, as He works in the ordinary circumstances of our daily lives for our good and His glory.”

You are responsible for all your actions.  You must seek God in prayer, act with prudence at all times, and trust God to work out His good purposes in your life.

October 7   The Wisdom of God

“God’s infinite wisdom is displayed in bringing good out of evil, beauty out of ashes.  It is displayed in turning all the forces of evil that rage against His children into good for them.  But the good that He brings about is often different from the good we envision.”

God is infinite in wisdom.  He always knows what is best for you, and He knows the best way to bring it about.

October 14   Knowing and Experiencing God’s Love

“It seems that the more we come to believe in and accept the sovereignty of God over every event in our lives, the more we are tempted to question His love.  We think, ‘If God is in control of this adversity and can do something about it, why doesn’t He?'”

You can trust God’s love, because He loves you with a perfect and infinite love, which was demonstrated on Calvary.  Because of your union with Christ, you are secure in that love.

October 21   Choosing to Trust God  “The whole idea of trusting God is, of course, based upon the fact that God is absolutely trustworthy.  Because God will never leave you nor forsake you, you are invited to ‘cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.'” (I Peter 5:7)  Jerry Bridges

You must choose, by an act of your will, to trust God in both major and minor difficulties.  You can do this regardless of how you may feel, because you know that God is sovereign, wise, and loving.
